"Live, Laugh, Love" Patterns

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , | Posted On Wednesday, July 08, 2015 at 11:00 PM

Live-Laugh-Love. We've all heard the saying, and by now its become so cliché that most of you probably want nothing to do with it. However, we've decided to make a post with old patterns we'd designed, yet had never posted, and in that collection happened to be patterns for "Live", "Laugh", and "Love".
The patterns are meant to be cut and hung in a row together, but could also work individually. The "Love" pattern has a heart in it, which kind of sets it apart from the other two, so it may suit you to not cut the heart out for the sake of uniformity.

Gumball Machine

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , , , , , | Posted On Thursday, December 12, 2013 at 1:39 PM

It's almost Christmas and you know what that means...GIFTS! Not only does this mean receiving gifts, but if you're like me, it's the busiest time of year in the workshop. I'm not one of those people who cut Christmas gifts in September!

This pattern is perhaps the best one we've ever made, and I honestly believe that it is better than many of the purchasable patterns out there. This gumball machine pattern is perfect for a child or even an office desk! I cut mine out of two different woods to dress it up a bit. I used padouk to give it a nice color, and white oak to provide a lighter colored wood. Also, make this pattern your own! I made my lever pretty simple, but there are unlimited possibilities. Cut the person's name in the lever perhaps?

Currently we are working on making a pattern where the gumball will drop out and either spiral around the machine or fall through a series of platforms before landing at the bottom. Please add rings/levels, change the mechanism... whatever you want, and send in your pictures! We love to see the creativity!

Liturgy Cross Pattern

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , , , , , , , | Posted On Saturday, February 25, 2012 at 4:45 PM

This cross design was inspired by the Liturgical books of my church. My youth group decided to meet together at church and attend Ash Wednesday as a group. I wanted something to remember that day, and as I walked out of the pew, I spotted a design on the front of the Roman Missal. I took a picture, hand drew a back design, and had Eric make the pattern on Corel. This is the result. I am quite pleased with the way it turned out. I used 1/2 inch black walnut for the back and 1/4 inch white maple for the top layer. I'm planning on making one with a maple back and purpleheart front soon.

Wood Pendants Pattern Set 2

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , , , , , , | Posted On Friday, February 24, 2012 at 12:07 AM

Here are a few more wooden pendant patterns. They are one of my biggest sellers. I often do mine in exotic woods such as bloodwood, yellow heart, or purple heart for a stunning effect. Please feel free to make changes to these patterns to make them your own custom design and send us pictures with your results. The only way youngsters and others can get started is by freely sharing patterns. That is one of the main purposes of this blog. As I have used other peoples' free patterns, I wish to do the same and post mine free. These patterns are more intricate to really test your skills. The "Love" pendant in the picture is made of purple heart and the "pine-cone/fossil" pendant is made of walnut. I also hand sanded mine to make them round and sort of sphere shaped.

RIP Steve Jobs. Scroll Saw Pattern

Posted by Eric Lochtefeld | Labels: , , , , , , , , | Posted On Wednesday, October 05, 2011 at 11:14 PM

As many readers probablly already know, Steve Jobs, Founder of Apple, died yesterday due to a losing battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be missed by millions who use not only the products, but also his original visions. From the Apple 1 to the iPhone 4s, Steve played a huge role in the company. Don't forget what Steve has done for us. Here is a pattern in his name.

Mr. Woodford emailed me this completed project. Thank you.

Thank you MagixL.com for the original caricature.

Perfect for hanging on a door or putting in the tree, this pattern can be cut out or cut into a board. If you are cutting out the pattern you can follow the inside or outside of the pattern; I prefer the outside. Scroll Saw Vases

Donald Woodford- "Time to smell the roses."
Thanks for submitting your picture!
Scroll saw vases are one of my favorite patterns to design. Every slight change in the curve make a whole new look. They can be used for decorative pieces or actually used for flowers if a narrow glass is added to the inside. The construction of the vase is pretty self explanatory. Check out the patterns here.

Family Frame Pattern 3x5 / Haiti Mission Trip

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , , | Posted On Thursday, June 23, 2011 at 3:30 PM

This pattern is a hanging picture frame. With a little tweaking and designing, it can be used as a free standing picture frame as well. If a quarter inch rabbet is added to the inside of the square on the back of the frame, the picture and glass can be inserted. Staples can be inserted behind the picture to hold it into the frame. The picture above is from the mission trip to Haiti Eric and I went on last summer. Our group was with each other for over a week and practically became a family. We visited 5 months after the earthquake (our trip was planned before the quake) and when we arrived, it looked like the day after the earthquake. We tried to do our part with what little time we had, including building a house for a homeless family. Now you may say "Well that is nothing, there are millions of homeless people down there; there is no way to make a difference." Well let me say this: I'm sure we made a difference to that family. Also, I am currently sponsoring a boy named Djeff who lives in an orphanage. The money pays for him to attend school and for basic necessities.
The family that moved in.

Djeff took this photo of Eric and Jeremy.

Wipe Your Paws Pattern

So as school is over, and I should have more free time, I actually have less. I've been working on art projects and english work for next school year already. Eric was able to complete this pattern. Soon we will be moving are patterns from Google hosting to a new setup. This will allow users with newer browsers to open the PDF without saving it. We will also try to update and change the gallery page. Please remember not to hotlink to our patterns.

Scraps Week - Pendants

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , | Posted On Monday, May 30, 2011 at 11:48 PM

This week is scraps week at The Scroll Bench. Time to use up all of the scraps you've been building up. Today the pattern is a set of pendants/keychains. Summer is starting and kids are getting out of school so I will try to have some simple patterns up as well for any kids who scroll saw. I'm working on uploading pictures of my school project this year which was a computer desk. Hopefully I will get more time to upload patterns and projects when school's out.

Large Oval Elevated Basket

Posted by Jeremy Walls | Labels: , , , , , , , , , , , , | Posted On Monday, May 16, 2011 at 11:54 PM

After a short hiatus, we're back at it. I've received many requests for more elevated basket patterns so I was able to get Eric to make another one which is a large oval. The pattern is designed to be used with 3/4" wood but with a little editing, 1/2" wood can be used.I will have him make a few more in the future to complete the collection. I may also put up some more vase designs. Feel free to design your own brackets for the vase patterns or the basket patterns. You only need to have it be 3/4" wood and it will fit in our pattern. Send them in if you want them on the site.
